While want ads are now on the computer instead of in the newspaper, the principle still remains the same. If you have a position, you can broadcast it for the world to see. The problem with this is that you may very well get everyone in the world to apply. This will then mean that you need to weed through all of the resumes that come in just to find a few that look promising. You have never met these people, so they must come in for an interview. All of this takes precious time that your managers really do not have. By the time you get around to actually hiring the most qualified, you may very well find that they have located another position on their own.
