Learning how to recognize and control your own emotions as well as the emotions of your employees is a great skill to possess which will help you to be an effective leader. Although this may be another cost to add to your list of business expenses it is well worth it.

Next, you need to make sure that you are leading by example. Not only will you be leading your employees it is important that you also take the time to lead yourself in the right direction as well. Set short term and long term goals and be sure to stick to any and all goals set so that your employees understand the importance of meeting these goals and deadlines. Another tip which I would like to offer you is to listen to your employees and do not rule with dictatorship. You want to be sure that your employees feel as if they can voice their opinions. If you simply bark out orders without taking the time to listen; you could very well miss out on information which could help you to understand problems within the workplace or miss out on advice for a new way of doing things which may be more effective than the plan currently in place. If you want to be a strong and effective leader you want to be sure that you consider yourself a member of the team as well as the leader.

Many leaders of small business often forget the importance of working on your business as well as in your business. If you want to be a great leader then you need to be sure that you consider the future success of the business. You also need to be prepared to take the time to analyze your actions and make the necessary changes in order to learn how to be the best leader you can be.
